Our testing saw the Hummer EV consistently deliver between 270 and 290 miles on a single charge in mixed driving conditions. This is still a respectable figure for a vehicle of its size and weight (over 9,000 lbs!), but falls slightly short of the advertised number.
Factors like driving style, ambient temperature, and terrain all play a significant role. Utilizing features like "Watts to Freedom" (WTF) mode, which unleashes the truck’s full power, will undoubtedly impact range. While the Hummer EV’s regenerative braking system does a decent job of recouping energy, the sheer weight makes it less effective than in lighter EVs.
Verdict: The Hummer EV’s range is solid, but realistic expectations are key. Plan your routes accordingly, especially for longer journeys, and be mindful of your driving habits.
Charging: A Speedy Affair (Potentially)
The Hummer EV is equipped with an 800-volt charging architecture, enabling DC fast charging at up to 350 kW. This theoretically allows for adding around 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes at a compatible charging station.
In practice, however, achieving these peak charging speeds can be challenging. Charging infrastructure isn’t always reliable, and the Hummer EV’s large battery requires a consistently high power output. We observed charging speeds typically peaking around 280 kW at a 350 kW charger, which is still impressive but not quite the maximum advertised.
At home, using a Level 2 charger (240V), expect a full charge to take around 12-14 hours. Installing a dedicated 100-amp circuit for faster home charging is highly recommended.
